After our engagement with the United Nation's World Food Program and the National Science Foundation and interviewing 200+ scientists and customers, we realized our goal wasn’t to create a beverage. We learned that our second phase of manufacturing bioreactors (for algae scientists) wasn’t the right goal either. The most value came from leveraging the unique qualities of algae which are natural colors, proteins, and lipids for the food industry.
Spira is a pioneering food technology company that creates innovative plant-based ingredients from spirulina algae. The company develops ingredients through proprietary processes that maximizes the unique value of algae, like omega-3 and natural colors. The team’s goal is to solve the global malnutrition problem and challenge the use of unhealthy practices in the food industry.
